Semi Open Water Skills Revision

Conducted by Owen Walton.

Meeting at Dobell Park in Wangi, ready to go 900am; shops and toilets are nearby.

After a bit of revision/practice etc, we could then go for a paddle (say) around Pulbah (including lunch) back for a final wrap up and be gone by mid-afternoon.

Participants should have a “sit-in”/sea kayak, all appropriate safety gear (PFD mandatory, spray skirt and pump strongly recommended, plus other gear  such as tow rope, paddle float, etc if available), food, water, change of clothes (you WILL GET WET). A “euro” or flat paddle is also recommended. This is not suitable for racing craft or skis, but is squarely aimed at recreational type craft and/or sea kayaks. It will be structured to suit the most inexperienced or novice paddler. The emphasis will be on safe boat handling on semi open waters like the Lake, Port Stephens, Sydney Harbour etc and will include self and assisted rescues.

All enquiries contact Owen on : 0409 360 698

Paddle Technique training

Darren Lee will be running the coaching session (thank you Darren!) which is open to all club members of all abilities. The session will include both on and off water elements and is free to members

Off the water Darren will talk about paddles, boats, racing (both spring and marathon), training generally and of course technique. On the water the intent is to target groups of different abilities or on specific areas of interest, and Darren will provide you with guidance / feedback to help you improve your paddling.

To assist with planning for the coaching session could you please email huntervalleycanoeclub@gmail.com  by 22 Nov if you plan to participate.

Lastly, after the coaching session why not join everyone for lunch at the Teralba Bowling Club bistro
