This day is absolutely suitable for Total Beginners even if they have just started paddling! (However, there will still be plenty for the more experienced, that I promise J.)
If interested contact Owen 0409 360 698 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Numbers are restricted to "14" so get in early and book your spot.
We will be based at the Wangi Caravan Park which is situated at the end of Watkins Rd Wangi There is reasonable car parking, a little shop, (at the Caravan Park) a public toilet, a gas BBQ, and a fresh water tap (for drinking and/or boat cleaning at the end of the day).
The day will commence at 0800 and run through until mid-afternoon. Anne Moore will assist me throughout the day.
The day is aimed at all kayak paddlers, from absolute beginners to “old hands”, who wish to revise, upgrade and practice their skills in all facets of recreational kayaking and rescues in a “closed” waters environment, (ie rivers, lakes and harbours. It is not aimed at “whitewater” or “ocean” paddling).
We will include: basic kayak design and what all the bits of a kayak are for; fundamental safety equipment; paddles – different types, advantages/disadvantages, how to hold and use; how to make the kayak move forward, backwards and sideways; how to avoid tipping over; what to do if you do tip over; assisted rescues; self-recues; towing; any other information relevant to closed water paddling and safety.
We will spend some time on shore initially going through the theory, then later move out onto the water for the good stuff.
As we will be there for a full day, each participant will need to bring food and drink. The day will also involve immersion so each participant will need to wear appropriate clothing, pfd, spray skirt, etc; plus a change of clothing for later.
